Detroit Pistons
Christman, along with joint venture partner L.S. Brinker, partnered with Henry Ford Health and the Detroit Pistons NBA team to develop and construct the foremost, state-of-the-art performance training and athletic medicine center in the country. The goal was to create an iconic civic building and flagship location for the franchise in Detroit that would improve player performance. The project includes three structures that give the impression of one contiguous development. The first facility constructed, the Pistons Performance Center, is the new practice facility and corporate headquarters. In keeping with the urban and pedestrian nature of the site, the project also includes ground floor retail.
The second structure constructed was the Henry Ford Health System Center for Athletic Medicine. This 55,000-square-foot, steel-framed facility is attached to the Pistons Performance Center via a second-story walkway. The center specializes in athletic and orthopedic medicine, offering cutting-edge diagnostic, physical therapy and performance training technologies to the Pistons and general public.
The third component of the development is the parking deck situated between the Pistons Performance Center and the Center for Athletic Medicine. This precast open concrete structure is a six-story deck that accommodates 380 parking spaces for both facilities.
