Baylor University Medical Center Cardiovascular Operating Rooms

This multi-phased interior renovation took place over the course of two and a half years and began with upgrades to 68 intensive care unit patient rooms and supporting nurse stations in two hospital buildings on the Baylor University Medical Center campus in Dallas, Texas. The project scope was divided into eight phases, allowing the team to complete numerous mechanical, electrical and plumbing improvements, combine two existing elevator shafts into one mega-elevator for the ICU to transport heart transplant recipients, relocate both the dialysis unit and perioperative administration department, and construct five new cardiovascular operating rooms.

Working on a fully operational hospital campus, communication between all team members was critical. While numerous areas were under construction at the same time, maintaining the project schedule ensured each phase of construction was completed on time to continue flowing smoothly. Great care was taken in critical areas to ensure noisy work activities took place at appropriate times. Extensive coordination was undertaken to maintain a safe environment for all patients, staff and visitors.
