Sparrow Plaza Building

This new facility allows Sparrow Health to fulfill its commitment to offering timely and convenient access to radiation, medical and surgical oncologists and a full range of clinical and family support services. Designed with the future in mind, this flexible space will be able to easily adapt to next generation technologies as they emerge.

The Plaza Building was constructed adjacent to Sparrow Health’s current professional building, centrally located along Michigan Avenue in downtown Lansing. The two buildings connect via an enclosed, third-floor walkway which also connects to the parking structure. The parking structure provides increased accessibility for visitors and reserved parking for Cancer Center patients. The environmentally friendly design offers visitors and patients a view of the healing garden through the south windows, and a central courtyard area on the north side of the building provides patients, visitors and caregivers with a place to rest and refresh.

A critical aspect of the project was to maintain safe operability of the existing professional building and operations throughout the 19-month construction duration. As construction manager, the Christman team maintained a safe environment for the staff, patients and visitors during this time. Prior to the start of construction, Christman’s Project Planning Group implemented Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology to help improve or eliminate potential clashes and unnecessary costs. Tackling challenges ahead of time allowed the construction process to follow its schedule as the project progressed.
