Historic Preservation

Mission statement

Sharing our legacy of intentional specialization in historic preservation contracting to enrich the world around us.

About Us

The Historic Preservation Group (HPG) is a dedicated team of more than 60 professionals—estimators, superintendents, and self-perform trades—who focus exclusively on the challenges of existing building renovation. With 80% of our team holding master’s degrees in historic preservation, we bring an unmatched level of expertise to every project.

Our team specializes in the intricate techniques required for historic restoration, including scaffolding for preservation, Guastavino tile, terracotta, ornamental plaster, decorative painting, and more. Since our first major preservation project in 1990, we have intentionally sought out complex restorations nationwide, ensuring the success of even the most challenging projects. From the IHM Sisters Motherhouse restoration in Michigan to the Virginia Capitol Restoration, the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C., and the rehabilitation of Michigan Central Station, our work has shaped communities across the country.

Our expertise has even extended internationally—Christman’s team constructed a conservation workshop at Finca Vigía, Ernest Hemingway’s home in Cuba, ensuring the long-term preservation of his priceless archives.
