Tiny House Community Development is one of our regional Be Constructive initiatives in the Greensboro office. Last summer, Senior Project Manager Delois King, who also serves on their Board of Directors, organized a volunteer day where several ELPs, including Kim Neese, April Larkins, and Lori Gicewicz, along with their families, helped serve breakfast to our less fortunate neighbors. We will be coordinating more of these volunteer days in 2025.

Tiny House Community Development (THCD) in Greensboro, NC, is dedicated to alleviating homelessness by building tiny house communities. Their mission extends beyond providing shelter; they offer education and workforce development programs to individuals experiencing homelessness, including veterans and those transitioning from incarceration. Through an 8–10-week course, participants earn the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) Core Basic Construction Skills certification, enabling them to secure jobs with local contractors at competitive wages.

THCD also operates the Homeless Outreach Prevention Empowerment (HOPE) Center, which provides resources, social worker support, and meals to those in need. The organization partners with various local entities, including educational institutions and businesses, to support their mission. Additionally, THCD engages in community projects, such as building garden boxes, potting tables, and chicken coops, as part of their training programs.

Overall, THCD aims to empower individuals by providing them with the skills and opportunities to lift themselves out of poverty while fostering a supportive community environment. Their holistic approach addresses both immediate needs and long-term solutions, making a significant impact on the lives of those they serve.
