Grow Blue!

As University of Michigan’s undergraduate enrollment grows, so does its need for additional housing. We’re proud to partner with the university to build a five-building community at the site of the former Elbel Field on its central campus. This is Christman’s largest project to date by total dollar value through a combined amount of the housing construction and Elbel Field work at $553 million.

This project mobilized in August of 2023, and it provides 2,300 beds and includes a 900-seat, state-of-the-art dining facility. All five buildings are scheduled to be turned over by Summer 2026.

What makes this project truly special is its commitment to sustainability, aligned with the university’s carbon neutrality goals. It includes:
• Geothermal heating/cooling for efficiency
• Photovoltaic panels for clean energy
• Green roofs for beauty and eco-friendliness
• An all-electric design
• LEED Platinum Certification for top-tier environmental standards

This project isn’t just about construction; it’s about building a brighter, more sustainable future for the University of Michigan and its students.
