Cooley Law School Stadium Renovations

Home to the Lansing Lugnuts, Cooley Law School Stadium is a minor league baseball stadium facility originally constructed in 1995. Located on Michigan Avenue just a few blocks east of the Michigan Capitol, the high-visibility venue also hosts other baseball and non-baseball events seasonally. The 2015 renovation was the largest in the stadium’s 20-year history, providing necessary upgrades and improvements to the popular facility.

The project included outfield redevelopment of concession, maintenance and recreation areas, seating improvements, field replacement, locker room renovations, suite level renovations, catering improvements, renovated finishes, and other upgrades to the overall operations and aesthetics of the stadium. Improvements were also made to the scoreboard, stadium lighting, digital ribbon boards wrapping the suite deck, and audio systems.

The fast-paced project was completed in under a year in order to ensure the stadium would be ready for the 2016 season. The team worked two shifts through a record-breaking winter without cancelling any workdays. With budget management as a top priority, the Christman team also conducted value engineering, providing cost reductions without impacting the project scope, ultimately reducing the project costs by 20 percent.

Located on a busy city site surrounded by public facilities and roadways, the team focused heavily on coordinating site logistics and implemented strategic lane closures and building partnerships with the Michigan Department of Transportation, the City of Lansing and Lansing Board of Water and Light.
