Cornerstone University Christ Chapel

Cornerstone University’s Christ Chapel, a milestone in its 75-year history, embodies the university’s mission of creating a Christ-centered community. Previously using temporary spaces for chapel services, the new building offers a dedicated venue with a 1,500-seat capacity, featuring a central platform for an immersive experience. Designed with dramatic open ceilings and clear span bowed trusses, it serves as a focal point for campus life.

Funded by a local benefactor, the chapel includes four large stained glass windows by Peter Brandes, depicting the resurrection. These windows, valued at $1.5 million, were carefully constructed and installed, adding vibrant color and light to the space.

The project emphasized safety, cleanliness, and communication, coordinating construction around the operational campus. Overhead work was prioritized before installing seating and the stage, and large trusses were erected with precision. The chapel integrates with the campus through pathways and landscaping, enhancing its connection with the surrounding structures.

Featuring state-of-the-art acoustics, audiovisual equipment, and high-tech capabilities, the chapel supports diverse events. Connected to Gordon Hall, it includes new practice and recital rooms. Efficient HVAC systems ensure comfort, while cost-saving strategies like using steel trusses maintained the budget. Christ Chapel strengthens the university’s mission and community engagement.
