Gerald R. Ford International Airport Consolidated Checkpoint and Marketplace

This project focused on transforming the air travel gateway to and from West Michigan, creating a new consolidated security checkpoint for passengers headed to both Concourses A and B as well as updates to the terminal’s Grand Hall and the installation of a new retail and concessions marketplace.

The changes created new services designed to improve the airline customer experience, including new and renovated toilet facilities, pre-checkpoint in the Grand Hall and post-checkpoint in the concourses, a lounge area where family can wait for arriving passengers, new and renovated food courts, and new and renovated retail stores. The Grand Hall received upgrades to floor and ceiling finishes that continue the West Michigan theme that was first brought in during the 2013 Concourse Expansion project. Also included is a separate space for active military, veterans and their families, and a memorial space designed as a tribute to President Gerald R. Ford.

The project team completed construction in several phases, with safety and security as the highest priority. The team created project-specific safety, logistics and security programs and ensured normal operations in and around the airport continued uninterrupted.
