Guilford County Schools

High Point Central High School

As one of the oldest schools in Guilford County, High Point Central High School was in need of significant upgrades. This project addressed some of the school’s issues with the construction of a bright, new cafeteria that addressed overcrowding, getting all students fed and back to class in time. Additionally, the Christman team renovated the old cafeteria, which was originally constructed in 1953, and turned it into a new, state-of-the-art media center. Included in this space are an audio/visual production area, staff offices and a flexible use classroom.

Working with the design team, Christman worked to give the space new life while adhering to the style of the original facility. The new features are meant to symbolize a school that is moving toward the future.

In addition to the renovation work, significant demolition of the existing building was completed, and a 3,000 s.f. addition constructed that allowed for the creation of a computer lab as well as professional development space. The building also received new finishes, new roofing and a mechanical and electrical upfit of the existing building to better accommodate the new use and features.
