Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist
This project involved the demolition and renovation of approximately 95% of the existing third floor to make room for two additions. The day hospital portion of the renovation included two new endoscopy rooms, a bronchoscopy room, new PACU space, new pre-op/holding suite, anesthesia suite, and all required support spaces. The cardiology portion of the project included the addition of two electrophysiology labs, renovation of two heart cath labs, pre- and post-procedure rooms, multiple cardiovascular rooms, and support spaces. The project also included the addition of one new air handling unit as well as relocation and installation of multiple UPS units.
The project began with a vertical addition directly over the occupied emergency department which needed to remain completely operational. The team successfully opened the roof, installed new columns and tied into existing systems and steel without disturbing patients and providers. With an exposed roof, the team took extra measures to ensure the ceiling remained watertight throughout construction.
