The Christman Company provided pre-construction planning services and construction management at-risk services for the renovation of the iconic 1924 Bertram Goodhue designed office building. Work scope included:
-Replacement of all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems
-Comprehensive interior and exterior restoration of historic finishes including marble, bronze, steel windows, Gaustavino dome and akoustolith tile
-ADA access improvements
-New site access for local security, due to the building’s adjacency to the State Department and Federal Reserve system facilities
-The addition of three atrium enclosures for expanded conference facilities
Over the previous nine decades, the building had been well maintained but the systems were at the end of their respective life cycles and not energy efficient. The joint venture team of Christman and Gilbane Building Company restored and updated the landmark with sustainable sensibilities including photovoltaic systems, rainwater retention and increased energy performance.
