New York Avenue Presbyterian Church
New York Avenue Presbyterian Church is a significant religious and cultural establishment that holds a rich history in the DC Metro area. Several U.S. presidents have attended the historic church, including Abraham Lincoln.
After years of wear and tear, it was time to revitalize the iconic sanctuary and reposition the organ from the rear of the building to the front, requiring extensive structural modifications to support its weight. All interior finishes were upgraded with new lighting, audio-visual system replacement, cork floor, pew refinishing and plaster repair. A new chancel was also created, as well as architectural finishes including decorative paint and replication millwork. All work was required to be performed on the second level while offices and assembly spaces on the first and third levels were in operation.
This project symbolized a commitment to honoring and maintaining cultural and religious heritage in the area. Through this revitalization, the New York Avenue Presbyterian Church will continue to serve as a place of worship, celebration and community engagement for generations to come.
