University of Tennessee

Student Union

The new Student Union on the University of Tennessee campus replaced the existing, outdated Carolyn P. Brown University Center with a new facility that was constructed in two major phases.

This first phase of the project was completed in 2015 and featured the University’s major dining facility and “Vol Shop” bookstore. Home to seven new dining concepts and flexible spaces for meeting and studying, Phase I is the focal point of campus, welcoming students and visitors to the University of Tennessee.

Phase II of the project included a 1,000-seat auditorium, ballrooms, lecture and meeting rooms, additional food service venues, production kitchen, recreation space, and office suites for student organizations and student life administration. The two phases were connected via a two-story sky bridge, providing a seamless connection between both buildings.

Located in the most congested vehicular and pedestrian center of campus, adjacent to the nationally recognized Neyland Stadium, the team worked carefully and efficiently to maintain normal operations in all of the surrounding areas.
