Essentials in jobsite safety

The real success in managing construction safety isn’t just about following the rules—it’s about being a part of a team that values training, partnership and skill. We believe safety is woven into the fabric of every project, from the beginning, before a shovel hits the ground. We don’t just talk about it; we live safety each day.

On a jobsite, nothing matters unless safety is prioritized. Knowing that each task is backed by the most comprehensive safety practices in the industry, we can guide our teams and partners to avoid hazards. How do we do this? We empower anyone on a job site to stop work if they believe something may be unsafe. This is true whether you are our newest team member or our most experienced superintendent. Everyone has a voice here at Christman.

Our safety program

Culture of safety

Reinforcing our safety culture and preventing accidents is a Christman core strength. We are dedicated to hosting multiple jobsite stand-downs on every project where work is paused to reinforce essential safety goals and communicate best practice techniques.

Full-time safety

Underscoring how important safety is, we have hired a dedicated team of experts who are uniquely qualified to train, lead, inspect and develop safety plans throughout our organization.  Accident prevention, compliance and risk management are all key competencies of this team.

Site videos and plans

We’ve produced more than 100 job specific safety videos and plans for our projects in the last year. For every job, we understand that unique hazards and risks can be present. Our goal is to have anyone who enters the site prepared for the distinct characteristics and possible dangers at the location.

Daily huddle

Being proactive and focusing on safety increases job satisfaction. In the last 12 months, we have hosted 10,000 workers in safety orientations, as every worker participates in safety. These talks identify daily risks and encourage communication while mitigating hazards. Safety, it’s how we live.

Safety ranking

Our commitment is to ensure that every foundation is solid, every structure stands tall, and everyone goes home safe at the end of the day. Our efforts to incorporate safety into the fabric of our work is proven based on our EMR results. With an NCCI company-wide rating of .66 (in an industry where 1.00 is the average) Christman projects perform stronger on safety. This level of safety investment, training and expertise is not only smart—it’s the most important way to demonstrate our commitment, protect our workers, and build a better, safer culture for everyone.
